Privacy Policy
Last updated: January 27, 2026
Children's Privacy First: Speak To Me Kids is designed with children's privacy as our top priority. We collect minimal data necessary to provide speech therapy services and never share children's information with third parties for advertising.
Speak To Me Kids ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting the privacy of children and families using our speech therapy application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your data.
Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information:
- Account Information: Parent/guardian email, name, and role (parent or speech-language pathologist)
- Child Profiles: First name, age, and speech therapy goals (no full names required)
- Practice Sessions: Accuracy scores and progress data from speech exercises
- Text Transcriptions: When your child practices speaking, the browser converts their speech to text. These text transcriptions (not audio recordings) are stored in our database for progress tracking and AI-powered pronunciation scoring. No raw audio is stored on our servers.
- Usage Analytics: Anonymous, non-personally-identifiable app usage data (e.g., features used, session counts) to improve the experience. We do not track individual user behavior or send personal information to analytics services.
How We Use Your Data
- Provide personalized speech therapy exercises and feedback
- Track progress and generate reports for parents and SLPs
- Improve our AI-powered speech recognition and feedback systems
- Send reminders for practice sessions (if enabled)
Audio Recordings & Speech Processing
Speech recordings are processed in real-time using the Web Speech API in your browser.Important: When using Google Chrome, the Web Speech API sends audio data to Google's servers for processing. This is a browser-level feature outside our control. If this concerns you, consider using a browser that processes speech locally (such as Safari on Apple devices).
Recordings are not stored on our servers unless you explicitly choose to save them for progress review. All saved recordings are encrypted and only accessible to the parent account holder.
Data Storage & Security
We use industry-standard security measures including encryption at rest and in transit. Your data is stored securely on servers located in the United States. We retain practice session data to enable long-term progress tracking. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to provide our app:
- Supabase: Secure database hosting and authentication
- Vercel: Application hosting
- Anthropic (Claude AI): AI-powered pronunciation scoring. When your child practices a word, the text transcription of their speech (not audio) is sent to Anthropic's API for analysis. No personal information is included in these requests.
- PostHog: Anonymous product analytics to help us improve the app experience. We do not send personally identifiable information to PostHog. We respect Do Not Track browser settings.
- Sentry: Error tracking (anonymous crash reports only, no session replay)
- Google (via Web Speech API): When using Chrome, your browser may send speech audio to Google for processing. See the Audio Recordings section above for details and alternatives.
Children's Privacy (COPPA)
Speak To Me Kids is designed for use by children under the supervision of a parent or guardian. All child profiles are created and managed exclusively through parent/guardian accounts. Children do not create their own accounts or provide personal information directly.
We collect only the minimum data necessary to provide speech therapy services: a first name (which can be a nickname), age, and practice session data. We do not collect full names, addresses, photos, or other sensitive personal information from children.
Parental Consent: By creating a child profile, the parent or guardian explicitly provides verifiable consent for the collection and use of their child's practice data as described in this policy. During account creation and child profile setup, parents must acknowledge this privacy policy and consent to data collection. Parents can withdraw consent and request deletion of their child's data at any time by contacting us.
